COCKER COLORS CHART

As I've stated before, the AKC Cocker Spaniel Breed Standard includes specific color definitions that divide the breed into three color "Varieties".    The colors and markings specified in the breed standard are the only acceptable colors, or combination of colors, that are allowed to be shown in conformation shows in the United States.  The breed standard specifically states that "any other colors or combination of colors to disqualify."

Unfortunately, the currently accepted breed standard does not recognize a number of colors, markings and patterns that are known to occur within this breed.   (The American Spaniel Club determines the acceptable colors for the breed and there is - and always has been! - considerable debate over the inclusion/exclusion of certain colors.)   While certain colors may be considered illegal for conformation showing, they are eligible for all other types of competition - agility, obedience, field trials, etc.  And, of course, a Cocker of any color makes a great companion!!

Click on the Links Below  to see pictures of different colors of Cocker Spaniels and the written definitions for each color variety.   There are also links for my Markings and "Mis-Mark" pages.  The "Markings" page shows pictures of some of the markings that may affect a Cocker's coat color.  The "Something Different" page shows colors and/or markings or patterns that may or may not be specifically listed in the breed standard, but which can be seen in the breed.
